Residual Current Devices (RCDs) which are also known as safety switches, are installed to protect from electric shock and to some extent, electrical fires. RCD’s can turn off the electricity within milliseconds when a current leak is detected from a faulty appliance.
Generally, an overloaded power point or a faulty electrical circuit can also trip your RCD.
RCD’s can be fixed or portable. RCD testing requirements apply to both types of devices.
