Test and Tag is the process of checking the safety of portable electrical appliances/leads to ensure they comply with
AS/NZS 3760:2022.

Plug-in electrical leads are visually inspected for damage, then run through a number of tests including earth continuity/bond, polarity, insulation resistance and DC Earth Leakage. These tests combined, ensure your appliance lead is safe for continued operation.
If the lead is deemed safe, a durable tag which shows key information such as test date, next test date and license number is attached.
Equipment that fails testing should be immediately taken out of service.
Test and Tag also includes compliant reporting which can be supplied to auditors, regulators and insurers.

This includes the responsibility that all portable electrical appliances should be tested in accordance to AS/NZS 3760:2022.
If an employee or member of the public is injured from an appliance that wasn’t tested and deemed

Test and Tagging aims to check the performance and reliability of your equipment. It serves to protect the safety of the people in your workplace that may come into contact with an unsafe appliance. Regulatory testing seeks to minimise the risk of electrical hazards.

Test and Tagging aims to check the performance and reliability of your equipment. It serves to protect the safety of the people in your workplace that may come into contact with an unsafe appliance. Regulatory testing seeks to minimise the risk of electrical hazards.
As a Business Owner, OHS Representative or Business Manager, you could be found to be negligent and face substantial fines in the event of an accident in your workplace.
If you do not fulfil your duties or obligations, you could be in breach of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 or the Electrical Safety Act 2002 and could be prosecuted.

Appliance Test and Tagging may prevent electric shock, fire and in the worst case death, also ensuring your business obligations of providing a safe workplace are met.
Test and Tagging of all electrical equipment in a workplace should now be considered standard practice. OH&S inspectors have been known to issue fines for businesses not complying with the set standards.
Businesses who are found to be negligent can be liable to prosecution and hefty fines, worse yet, living with the knowledge that you could have prevented such an incident from occurring.
Licensed Test and Tag Intervals
According to AS/NZ3760:2022, the frequency of which your electrical equipment should be Test and Tagged is dependent on the type of environment your business operates and how your equipment is used.
Depending on each appliance type, the following tests may be conducted with the assistance of a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT):
- Visual inspection
- Earth Continuity/Bond
- Insulation Resistance 500V
- DC Earth Leakage
- Polarity
- Operational and push button
